Paul H. Anderson has served as Associate Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court since July 1994. He was the Chief Judge of the Minnesota Court of Appeals from 1992 until 1994. Before his appointment to the bench, Justice Anderson was in private practice as a partner of the LeVander, Gillen & Miller Law Offices in South St. Paul.
He served as a Special Assistant Attorney General in the Criminal Division and Department of Public Safety, Office of the Minnesota Attorney General from 1970 until 1971. He also served as a VISTA (Volunteers In Service to America) attorney from 1968 until 1969.
Justice Anderson received a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Macalester College. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from University of Minnesota.
Justice Anderson has participated extensively in professional and civic activities, particularly those involving court interpreters, multicultural diversity and racial fairness in the courts, legal education and writing, the selection and performance of judges, and access to justice.
Among other activities, he has served as chair of the Court Interpreter Advisory Committee, member of the Implementation Committee on Multicultural Diversity and Racial Fairness in the Courts, member and chair of the Minnesota Judicial Selection Commission, and Adjunct Professor of the University of Minnesota Law School.
Justice Anderson is passionate about educating Minnesota’s youth about the role of the courts in Minnesota and has visited hundreds of schools throughout the state as a guest lecturer. He as received many professional and civic awards for his service to the community. An avid bicyclist, Justice Anderson has participated in The Ride Across Minnesota (TRAM) for MS and other cycling tours of Wyoming, Utah, and Montana.
